Sol Mogerman was named Stuart Louis Mogerman at birth in 1945 after his father’s father, Solomon Louis Mogerman, to keep the angel of death from confusing him with his then living grandfather. He grew up known as Stuart or Stu Mogerman in Berkeley, California and survived long enough to safely outlive his grandfather and claim his true name as “Solomon”. When he moved to Canada 20 years ago people began to call him Sol. This made sense to him as he was born on the Summer Solstice. Sol has survived an acquired brain injury (stroke) from a car accident in 1985 to become a clinical counsellor (specializing in restoration of self-image after brain injury and trauma), author, teacher, cartoonist and musician. He is married to the artist Gundula Mogerman, father of four sons, and lives in Victoria, British Columbia where he plays music, writes, teaches and practices counseling. |
